10 Years of Romance Comic Book Blogging!
Many of you comic book fans are probably aware that this year marks the 50th anniversary of Comic-Con International in San Diego. While I’m not there this year (bummer!) I was thinking about the fact that Sequential Crush here is also celebrating a significant anniversary! Believe it or not, 2019 marks ten years of this little old blog!
Over the past ten years, so much has happened both in life and with the blog. You were here when the blog was merely a Blogspot site; we made it through the demise of the Google RSS feed (sob!), and then, the sudden passing of my mom. You were here for a crazy whirlwind move to Europe and then back again. You were here during a day job career change, a Kickstarter that almost made it, a complete overhaul of the website design, and the publishing of my first book How to Go Steady. You were here when I fell in love and got married to the most amazing man. These things don’t even begin to touch on all the things we uncovered together in the romance comics; artists, writers, easter eggs, patterns in the genre, and fantastic stories.
I have to admit, there have been times when all this has felt like a slog with no end or payoff. So much so that I had to take a break. Over the past few months, I’ve thought long and hard to figure out if blogging is still a valid means of expression in 2019 and beyond. After a lot of soul searching, I’ve realized that it unequivocally is and that I have SO much more to share with you! There are artists and other creatives yet to talk about, there are stories and themes that I haven’t covered yet, and of course, we need to talk more about why the genre died out. Thank you for sticking with me all these years, and I hope you'll join me to see what the next ten years bring!
